Is your Florida Medicare Plan Going Away?
Many health insurance companies are not renewing some of their Medicare Advantage plans in 2026. If you are enrolled in a Medicare HMO or PPO and received a noticed from your insurance company, you have options.
The first option is you can enroll in another Medicare Advantage plan from the same, or another insurance company.
The second option is to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan. You will need to save the notice from your insurance company which will give you guaranteed issue with the company offering the Medicare Supplement plan. That means they can not ask you medical questions or charge you more based on your health. They also must cover your pre-existing conditions.
How to choose a new Medicare Plan:
First of all, work with an independent health insurance broker. That is because they are contracted with multiple insurance companies but don’t work for any of them. In effect, the broker works for their clients.
If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan from an insurance company, that company pays the broker an initial commission and renewal commissions, for each year, you stay enrolled in that plan. Also, the broker receives extensive training annually from each plan. As a result they know how to find the right plan for your needs. The broker should review your list of providers, medications and lifestyle to select the best plans for you.
When looking for a Medicare Supplement plan, you will need to understand how they work. First of all, Medicare Supplement plans work with Original Medicare. They are not Medicare Advantage plans and can not supplement them. Medicare Supplement plans cover some or all of medical costs not covered by Original Medicare. The plans do not cover prescription drugs or extra supplement benefits. Therefore, you will also need to enroll in a Medicare Drug Plan.
These plans are standardized and are assigned a unique letter, which defines their coverage. In addition, the plans have a monthly premium, which is based on where you live, your age and if you are male or female. Medicare Supplement plans also have small annual increases.
