First call Renee Lempert Medicare Agent at Florida Seniors Health Insurance. I’ll show you how and when to enroll. Also, I will explain how Medicare works and how to improve your coverage.
These are The 4 Parts of Medicare. You’ll need to consider enrolling in:
If you are enrolled in Social Security benefits, you will receive your Medicare Card showing your effective dates for Part A and B. You will get it shortly before your 65th Birthday. Otherwise, you will need to enroll in Medicare. You can enroll through Social Security or at a local Social Security office.
Once you enroll in Medicare, you are eligible to enroll in a Medicare Part D plan, a Medicare Supplement Plan and/or a Medicare Advantage plan.
The Annual Enrollment Period. This has been between October 15-December 7 each year. During this period, you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage or Drug plan for the first time, switch to another plan or cancel your plan and enroll in a Medicare Supplement Plan. The plan effective date will be January 1 of the following year.
Open Enrollment Period. This is from January 1-March 31 each year and if for Medicare Advantage members. This perod allows you to change your plan to another Advantage plan, or cancel your plan and return to Original Medicare. At that time, you can also add a Medicare Supplement Plan and a drug plan. When you enroll, your coverage will begin the 1st of the following month.
Your Initial Enrollment Period. When you first turn 65or if you are under 65 and receiving Social Security Disability for 24 months. At that time you will have a 7 month enrollment period. It begins 3 months before your 65th birthday, includes the month of your birthday and ends 3 months later. Your effective date is usually the first of your birthday month. However, if your birthday is on the first of the month, your Medicare effective date, with be the 1st of the previous month. If you are collecting disability, you will be enrolled in Medicare A and B on the 25th month after you start collecting it.
General Enrollment Period. During this time you can enroll in Medicare Part B for the first time, if you missed your Initial Enrollment Period and don’t qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Coverage begins the month after you enroll. Also, you may have to pay a late-enrollment penalty for Part B.
A Special Enrollment Periodwhich allow you to change your plan outside other enrollment preiods. I can occur due to various circumstances. These include, leaving your employer coverage or opting out of it, moving, obtaining Medicaid and more
You can enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan with drug coverage or a Medicare Supplement Plan with a separate drug plan.
The reason you need to add additional coverage is because Medicare only pays about 80% of your medical costs. In addition, Original Medicare A and B does not have limits on your annual costs.
Also, Medicare A and B doesn’t include drug coverage. That is Medicare Part D, Prescription Drug Coverage.Do you have questions? I have answers.
